With a lack of engineers in aviation, the industry, in particular aircraft maintenance, is proving to be a lucrative career.
Yesterday’s two-day Discover Aviation Careers 2014, organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers, attracted just 100 people, though organisers said that applicant numbers were beyond expectation. Many young graduates said they were inspired by the TVB drama, Triumph in the Skies, about aviation workers and were thus interested in a career in aviation.
Since there are only two universities — The Polytechnic University and The University of Science and Technology — that offers aviation-related courses, the industry is in desperate need of talent. Hong Kong Airlines, for example, has 31 positions open due to the increase of passenger traffic.
