Australia inquest to find if hit and run of Hong Kong cyclist was deliberate

An inquest in Queensland, Australia, is due to determine whether a local woman deliberately hit a 25-year-old visiting Hongkonger with her car.

According to documents revealed at a pre-inquest conference in Brisbane today, Shui Ki Chan was cycling back from McDonalds where he worked on Aug. 23, 2012, when he was hit and left for dead.

An autopsy revealed the 25-year-old succumbed to hypothermia on the side of a highway at Gatton, west of Brisbane.

A local woman, who allegedly told several people that she hit Shui deliberately, is being investigated but is yet to be charged by police.

The Brisbane Times reports that she will be subpoenaed to appear at the inquest on May 19 and has been advised to seek legal representation.
