Are Hongkongers massive food wasters?

Apparently so! Oxfam Hong Kong claims that local food companies are throwing away food worth nearly HK$60 million a year.

Although many food manufacturers and vendors in Hong Kong have waste reduction measures in place, they are still producing such high levels of food wastage.

In fact, a lot of the food going to waste can actually be donated to those in need. However, senior manager of Oxfam’s Hong Kong programme expressed that very little of them actually do. Reason being is that there may be liability issues attached, if food donated causes food poisoning, and such. The legal liability attached scares company’s from donating.
