The High Court has sided with Zhang Ziyi, Chinese actress famous for her roles in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and the recent Grandmaster, in her defamation lawsuit against Apple Daily and Next Magazine.
The sister publications of Next Media had according to Zhang published defamatory articles about her on May. 29 and May. 31 in 2012.
The stories reported that Zhang had made about HK$897 million by sleeping with the powerful and influential, like mainland officials and businessmen, in China including Chongqing party chief Bo Xilai.
The court ruled that Apple Daily and Next Magazine must pay Zhang’s legal costs even though the publications tried to argue that Zhang did not need to hire such a senior counsel for the case.
