Another medical blunder, possibly caused the death of 66-year-old patient

A 66-year-old woman is believed to have died because she was wrongly prescribed a three-month course of steroids.

The woman was suffering from several chronic illnesses and end-stage renal failure. She was first admitted to United Christian for acute bronchitis and returned home with a six-day course of oral steroids.

On her follow-up consultation, she was prescribed the same dose for a three-month course.

Two months later, she was admitted to the hospital for severe pneumonia but shortly after died from cardiac arrest and other chronic illnesses.

The hospital is investigating the case and will file a report to the Medical Authority.
