Amber travel alert despite martial law declared in Thailand

About 500 Hongkongers, part of more than 20 tour groups are in Thailand at the moment, and are urged to stay away from protests and crowded areas as the country’s army declared martial law this morning.

The Travel Industry Council told the SCMP there are seven to eight more tour groups, consisting of 100 people, departing for Thailand today and so far no tour groups have cancelled plans to visit the country yet as the travel alert remains at amber.

The Thai army declared martial law in the hopes to restore order after months of anti-government and pro-government protests.
