To a non-Chinese speaker, English names on the MTR map don’t make any sense so 20-year-old Justin Cheuk recreated the MTR map retranslating the stations literally into English on his personal blog. Cheuk’s first map has gone viral and he has now created a second, more refined version.
Cheuk is looking for help with his “Volume II” version and has been delving into the history for reason of some rather strange station names. Cheuk claims he has heard theories that some weird station names were made up to annoy the British government at the time, like Tsing Yi, apparently a Chinese pun for stripping in Chinese and Ma Liu Shui which is a pun for horse urine.
