Cultural events are blossoming all over Hong Kong and we’ve got a brand-new jazz festival to add to the roster of things for which you need to buy tickets. The three-day festival, which will be taking place on the New Central Harbourfront in November, features a line-up of impressive acts from local performer Eugene Pao, to international superstars like Joss Stone and Jaimie Cullum, to jazz greats like Al Jarreau and Sergio Mendes.
The North Sea Jazz Festival, which also hosts events in Rotterdam and Curaçao, has had a long history of showcasing some of the best jazz musicians since its inception in 1976 in The Hague. If you’re wondering why a Dutch festival is suddenly making its way to our South China shores, it’s because One2 Entertainment, a company founded by two Dutchmen, is leading the charge.
Jan Willem Luyken, the director of North Sea Jazz said: “We are very proud to build a cultural bridge between the Netherlands and China, and connect the two greatest ports in the world: Rotterdam and Hong Kong”.
We don’t know much about Rotterdam (apart from that Beautiful South song, of course), but we’ll take the compliment.
