A poor 90-year-old woman suffering from Alzheimer’s disease is apparently losing sleep after being charged with theft in May.
The old woman’s granddaughter, surnamed Siu, argued that her grandmother had simply forgotten to pay for fish and sausages at a ParknShop in Tseung Kwan O.
Apparently clueless during the whole process of being arrested, Siu’s grandmother made her own bail thinking she was paying for the supermarket food, reports Apple Daily.
Siu has since hit out at the police for not following proper procedures. She says that her grandmother has impaired hearing and could not communicate with the police properly because she only speaks the Hakka dialect.
Yet, the police report states that the elderly woman admitted to stealing the food for her own consumption. She was reportedly made to visit the police station three times during a two-month period before she was released with a warning.
