90 children at Hong Kong primary report food poisoning symptoms after school lunch

Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection (CHP) is investigating after 90 pupils at a primary school in Tai Kok Tsui reported symptoms of food poisoning.

Either a chef isn’t washing their hands or the kids have mobilised for a day of mass truanting.

The complaints came from students at Tai Kok Tsui Catholic Primary School who reported symptoms of acute gastroenteritis, including abdominal pain and diarrhoea, around 18 hours after eating lunch on the premises on Wednesday.

The CHP has so far identified 15 affected children – seven girls and eight boys between the ages of six and eight – presumably by smell. Seven required medical attention but none needed to be hospitalised.

The centre reminded the public to pay extra attention to personal, food and environmental hygiene while investigations into the cause of the outbreak are ongoing.
