She’s the Bear Grylls of Hong Kong’s octogenarians.
An 81-year-old woman who went missing while hiking in a country park has been found alive and well after three days of roughing it in rugged terrain.
The woman, surnamed Ng, had been trekking with her husband on Sunday when the pair became separated near Pineapple Dam in Tsuen Wan about 3pm, according to Ming Pao.
Her husband, 83, was taking some photos of the scenery, turned around and, like in a scene from one of those adventure-turns-into-a-horror-story movies, couldn’t find her.
He called the emergency services the following morning after he returned home and she didn’t return his calls.
Emergency services then swung into action and began a search.
And, after a few tense days of looking, there she was, near a stream on the Shing Mun Reservoir hiking trail.
According to Apple Daily, the Ng, who suffered some abrasions to her legs and was slightly dehydrated, was an experienced hiker and knew the area well.
She had survived, it was reported, by drinking water from the mountains.
Ng’s husband told reporters his wife sometimes had trouble remembering things though stressed she didn’t have dementia. He said he’d be more careful next time.
For her part, Ng simply told reporters that she was “alright.”
On the question of her memory, they then asked Ng’s husband if his wife had any trouble recognizing him.
She did not.
“Of course she did [recognize me],” he said.
“She even yelled at me too!”
