800 young athletes participate in Hong Kong’s 10th All Girls Rugby Tournament

On Saturday, 800 young athletes – including more than 500 girls between the ages of six and 12 and 230 teens aged between 13 and 19 – participated in the 10th edition of the Hong Kong All Girls Rugby Tournament.

It was the largest number of participants for yesterday’s tournament at King’s Park, which saw a record-breaking 198 games played.

It’s a big leap from the 66 games played by 130 girls during the inaugural 2006 competition.

Two teams, both comprised of members from Sandy Valley Pirates, tied for the Under-19 division while the Sai Kung Stingrays took the Under-16 cup home. HKU Sandy Bay won the Under-14 cup final, while USRC Tigers were the Under-12 champs.

Members of Hong Kong’s women’s national team – some of whom played as young stars in the very first All Girls Tournament 10 years ago – presented the winners with their trophies.
