A 700-pound stray ox slipped and fell down a slope and had the lower half of its body trapped in a manhole in Sai Kung yesterday morning. Unable to move, the ox was suspected to have eventually died of exposure.
Police and firemen arrived to assist but because the stray ox was too heavy, they could not think of a way to rescue it. They had to wait until veterinarians from the Fisheries Department arrive and figure out a way to rescue the cow out of the manhole. Alas, the ox perished before the vets arrived and its corpse was eventually towed away with a fire crane. Poor thing!
