Who needs summer vacation? Apparently nine months of school is just not enough for these Hong Kong parents.
From Saturday night people started queuing in the parking lot of a Sha Tin building in order to nab a spot for their kids at Acme Learning Centre’s six-week-long summer tutoring course, reports Apple Daily.
Applications opened at… 9am on Sunday.
Some arrived as early as 5pm the night before – meaning they waited 16 whole hours.
Another who arrived at 6am said they were the 260th in line, with over 700 people in total eventually joining the queue.
One parent said that she liked the centre’s strict teaching style, and that she doesn’t mind if her kids spend 12 hours a day on practice exams.
These parents’ love and concern for their children’s is pretty inspiring, but we can’t help wonder if spending the night outdoors so that your kids can spend the entirety of their summer indoors is a lose-lose situation.
Some experts unsurprisingly say that studying during summer holidays can be counterproductive since kids need to rest and recovery, and might grow sick of learning.
