Saving animals by day, winning world marathon championships by night.

Hong Kong veterinarian David Gething, 39, won the World Marathon Challenge on Saturday after running seven marathons in seven continents in seven days (yes, it’s possible).

Gething started off in Antarctica, then headed to the Southern tip of Chile before flying to the decidedly warmer climates of Miami, Florida.

The next stop was Madrid, Spain, after which he hopped over to Marrakech, Morocco, then to Dubai in the UAE, and finally to Sydney in his native country of Australia.

The week-long trip seems exhausting enough without having to run 42.2 kilometres every day!

“Part of my toes are lost to frost bite, all the tendons in my feet are gone,” he told the SCMP.

“My kneecaps are aching and it will take a few days’ rest before I can start to feel normal again.” Believe it or not, Gething was competing against 11 other equally insane participants to win the title.

He flew a total of 59 hours, travelled over 38,000 kilometres by regular modes of transportation, and ran 295.4 kilometres on his own two feet.

His total run time came out to 25:36:03.

For the sake of his knees, we hope this man never runs again, but it seems like he’s just unstoppable.
