More than 6,000kg of highly explosive materials have arrived in Hong Kong, ready to light up Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour come Saturday, the second day of the Year of the Horse.
Traditionally, fireworks were set off in the Chinese New Year to scare away evil spirits with bangs and bright lights.
For safety reasons, the explosives were delivered via a container ship on a boat not by land.
Technology now allows for a computerised network to send an electrical current to ignite the explosives. The electric match can be timed accurately to create spectacular images – expect to see lucky number eights and lucky horseshoes this year.
