5-year-old boy dies from injuries after being hit by taxi in Tuen Mun

A five-year-old boy has died after being hit by a taxi in Tuen Mun this afternoon.

The boy and his mother, both of whom are mainland Chinese, were reportedly walking hand-in-hand along Heung Sze Wui Road, near Ho Pong Street at around 5:20pm. According to Apple Daily, the child is suspected to have suddenly run out onto the road, and was knocked down by a taxi.

A report by Oriental Daily alleged that the child had run onto the road to follow his mother, and claimed that she was rushing to cross the road before the traffic light turned red.

A witness told Apple Daily that the boy sustained a major wound to his head, and was bleeding profusely. A doctor and nurse from a nearby medical clinic reportedly performed first aid on the child before he was taken to hospital.

The five-year-old was later certified dead at 6:15pm. The 46-year-old taxi driver has been arrested and taken into police custody for questioning.
