Pedestrian, 59, killed in traffic accident in Central, driver arrested

On Friday, a 59-year-old man tragically died in a traffic accident near 50 Connaught Road in Central.  

At around 12:49pm on Feb. 19, a 41-year-old man driving a light goods vehicle was driving west on Connaught Road Central when his vehicle reportedly knocked down the 59-year-old while he was crossing the road.

Unconscious and having sustained serious head injuries, the pedestrian was immediately rushed to Queen Mary Hospital, where he was certified dead at 1:45pm.

Investigations are being run by the Hong Kong Island Special Investigation Team of Traffic. The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, but has since been released on bail pending further investigation. He is required to report back to the police in mid-March.

The police urge any witnesses or anyone with relevant information to call the investigating officers at 3106 8814.
