51-year-old daughter arrested for looting her own family’s home

A 51-year-old woman was arrested in the early hours of this morning for allegedly stealing HKD50,000 in cash and valuables from her 80-year-old dad.

That’s what parents are for though, right?

Police received a call from a luxury apartment on Lancashire Road, Kowloon Tong, at around 1:45am after the retired businessman found an antique plate, a painting and 12 gold ornaments had gone missing.

The ornaments alone have an estimated value of HKD40,000, while HKD450,000 in cash – which was no doubt lying around in a bottom drawer – had also been taken from the family home.

The man’s 51-year-old daughter, who was at the house when the police arrived (rookie mistake), was arrested and has been taken for questioning.

“We were told that the money and valuables were part of the family’s inheritance,” a police source told the SCMP. “The woman claimed she had the right to handle the cash and valuables.”
