44.5 hectares in Ma On Shan Country Park to be set aside as conservation area

The Planning Department has submitted a paper to the Town Planning Board proposing that 44.45 hectares of the Mau Ping enclave, almost the entirety of the enclave, be set aside for conservation.

A draft proposal in April had only set aside a pitiful 5.57 hectares for conservation. This earlier plan also included 38.88 hectares that would have been zoned as being green belt, but under the latest proposal these areas have been incorporated into the conservation zone, according to the SCMP.

The change from the April draft to the latest one comes after the Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden conducted a survey that identified ten plant species in the area that are either protected or rare.
