4 Hong Kong men arrested on floating meth lab in the Philippines

Officers from the Philippine National Police arrested four Hong Kong men yesterday on suspicion of smuggling and manufacturing narcotics on a fishing vessel.

At 9pm local time, agents from the PNP’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Group boarded the 50-metre-long ship in Subic Bay, reports Interaksyon, the news site for Filipino channel TV5.

They found 500 grams of suspected methamphetamine worth around PHP2.5 million (HKD409,000) and arrested the four Hong Kong Chinese men, aged 29 to 49, who were onboard.

PNP director general Ronald dela Rosa told ABS-CBN that the vessel was used to smuggle drugs into the Philippines, and could have been used to manufacture a 180-kilo haul of meth recently found in Claveria, Cagayan.

Emerson Margate of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency told Interaksyon that a hydro-generator capable of producing 50 kilograms of meth in a single cycle was found on the ship.
