Stop eating wild mushrooms, Hong Kong!
The Centre for Health Protection has urged the public to stop eating wild mushrooms they collect in the countryside after the authorities received two separate cases of suspected food poisoning.
On Tuesday, a 56-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man ate mushrooms they picked from a flowerbed near their house and from the side of the road in Yuen Long, according to a government statement.
Three hours later, they developed the very unpleasant symptoms of stomach pains, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
The next day a 63-year-old woman started experiencing same symptoms, also three hours after she ate mushrooms she picked from the side of the road in Yuen Long.
We’re detecting a pattern
The 51-year-old man and the 63-year-old woman were admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on Wednesday, with the latter discharged the same day.
The 56-year-old didn’t seek medical attention, because she apparently has intestines of steel. All three are now in stable condition.
All those fungus specimens that have sprouted out of the ground after last week’s rather damp conditions may look tasty – and we’re all in support of connecting with nature – but please, please, do not mess with wild mushrooms.
