Three elderly people, aged 73 to 82, were killed yesterday in three separate traffic accidents, police say.
In the early hours of yesterday, a 79-year-old man surnamed Ng who suffered from dementia wandered 300 metres away from his elderly home in Ngau Tau Kok. He was hit by a minibus approximately 300 metres away at 2am.
Ng was rushed to United Christian Hospital, where he was certified dead at 2:27am.
The minibus driver, a 71-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
At 10:10am, an 82-year-old woman surnamed Au Yeung was crossing the road at Kut Shing Street in Chai Wan when she was hit by a taxi.
The cab driver, a 58-year-old man surnamed Cheung, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, according to a police statement.
Au Yeung, who sustained serious injuries to her head, was declared dead at 1:02pm at Eastern Hospital.
Later, at 7:10pm, a 73-year-old man surnamed Lam was hit by a motorcycle when crossing Hoi On Road in Tsuen Wan.
Lam and the motorcyclist, a 52-year-old man surnamed Wong, were both rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Lam was confirmed dead at 10:33pm. Wong remains in critical condition.
