Police have arrested three men in Hong Kong for exposing others to COVID-19, inciting people to spread the virus and urging attacks on testing centers.

In a press conference on Wednesday, superintendent Wilson Tam, from the police’s cyber security and technology crime bureau, said the force had arrested the three — aged 21 to 28 — in Yau Tong, Wong Tai Sin and Yuen Long on Tuesday.

He said the 21-year-old had used online platforms to encourage infected people to spread the virus in February this year.

Tam said the 28-year-old — who was aware he was COVID-19 positive — visited several restaurants in San Po Kong, Wong Tai Sin and Diamond Hill.

“It’s obvious that he was deliberately leaving some tissues on the table and on the utensils,” he said, referring to the man’s social media posts.

The superintendent said the last man, aged 27, was arrested for urging others to bomb testing centers and attack relevant personnel on a social media platform in February this year.

He added that the 28-year-old would appear in court on Wednesday afternoon, while the other two were granted bail pending further investigation.

Tam said the police did not rule out more arrests.
