26 y/o Malaysian tourist dies in no-helmet, head-on motorbike collision in Hong Kong

A 26-year-old Malaysian tourist has died in Hong Kong after the motorbike he was riding pillion crashed head-on into a seven-seater car yesterday morning. The deceased man, who was not wearing a helmet, was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in an unconscious state and certified dead at 9:22am.

The crash happened at around 8:45am on Monday when the motorcycle, driven by a 34-year-old man, collided with a private car, driven by a 21-year-old woman, as it travelled along Route Twisk towards Tsuen Wan.

The driver of the car was also taken to Yan Chai Hospital with neck injuries, while the motorcycle rider was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital after sustaining head injuries.

It is not yet known whether the latter had been drinking or why the passenger was not wearing a helmet, but the woman, who passed a breathalyser test at the scene, had reportedly only had her licence for nine months.

“We will look into the cause of the crash,” Inspector Ma Wai-hung, of the New Territories South special traffic investigation team, told the SCMP. “We will take a blood sample from the motorcyclist when his health condition stabilises and will not rule out arresting him.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is urged to call the investigating officers on (+852) 3661-1300.
