24 injured after two double-decker buses and flatbed truck collide in Tai Lam Tunnel

Yesterday evening, 24 were injured after a container truck lost control inside Tai Lam Tunnel, causing two double-decker buses to collide behind it.

At around 6pm, the truck suddenly lost control as it was heading towards Yuen Long, hitting the left side of the tunnel, reports Apple Daily. The force of the collision was so strong that the cab of the lorry flipped around to face the opposite way.

A 968-line KMB double-decker bus behind the truck was able to stop in time, but a 268C-line KMB double-decker behind the first bus was unable to brake fast enough, colliding with the back end of the 968.

Medical personnel and firefighters arrived on the scene, taking 24 people, including the driver of the 268C bus, to hospital.

All three drivers passed a breathalyser test at the scene. The police towed away the flatback truck for further investigation.

The police blocked off the tunnel’s slow lane heading towards Yuen Long, causing the traffic congestion to stretch back six kilometres into Kam Chuk Kok in Tsing Yi.
