22 cars and motorcycles ruined by flood from burst pipe in Tai Po

A total of 22 vehicles have been ruined by water damage from burst pipes in Tai Po. The flooding, which has been attributed to old water pipes, took place on Tai Wo Service Road East, and affected a nearby open-air carpark.

Speaking to Apple Daily, a local resident surnamed Chow said that he and his wife heard rumbling coming from the carpark at around 2pm yesterday. Soon, Chow said the couple saw a large influx of muddy water flooding the parking lot, and they drove away.

The vehicles parked in the lot – 18 cars and four motorcycles – were damaged after being submerged in roughly one metre of water.

A spokesperson for the Water Services Department (WSD) said that the burst pipe was used for roughly 30 years for treatment works and to bring water to Plover Cove. According to the WSD, yesterday’s rupture did not affect the public water supply, and the pipe will be repaired as soon as possible.
