A 20-year-old woman was arrested after she apparently drenched her unconscious mother with boiling hot water.
The 47-year-old mother, surnamed Lau, and her daughter, surnamed Luk, live on Kwai Fong Estate together. On Monday evening, Apple Daily reports that the pair got into an argument before going to bed.
At 8am yesterday, Luk went into her mother’s room with the kettle and reportedly woke the sleeping Lau up by pouring scalding water on her head.
Lau immediately ran down to the apartment lobby and called the police, who arrested her daughter on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm.
The 47-year-old was rushed to Kwai Chung Hospital to be treated for injuries to her face and neck, and is in stable condition.
After her arrest, Luk complained that she had also been splashed by the boiling water and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Lau’s ex-husband told Apple Daily that their daughter “never adapted” to living in Hong Kong after leaving mainland China 11 years ago, and has trouble getting on with people.
He added that the 20-year-old suffered from a mood disorder and was prone to temper tantrums and violent outbursts.
Police from Kwai Tsing District are investigating the case.
