Call it the “Melee on the Railway: Redux.” For the second time in as many days, a video of people fighting while traveling on public transport has captured headlines.

Next Magazine reported today that the latest bout of public transport fisticuffs took place inside the MTR light rail tram from Yuen Long to Tin Shui Wai at 1pm on Saturday. Video of the brawl appeared one day after footage surfaced of another altercation, also filmed on Saturday, in which five people were arrested for brawling inside a crowded MTR train after a kid accidentally stepped on another passenger’s foot.

The person who filmed the video, who gave her name as “Man Man,” said the tram was quite crowded at the time and that the two women were fighting over a seat.

“The woman in black was sitting on a priority seat, then the woman in the green coat said ‘this seat is meant to be for elderly people like me,'” she said.

Man Man said that although the woman in black gave up the seat, the woman in green continued to scold the her. Things quickly escalated, and the pair began exchanging blows inside the tram carriage.

In the video, the woman in black appears to be hitting the woman in green with her bag before getting off for her stop at Tin Yiu Estate.

But the fight doesn’t stop there. The woman in black can be heard calling on the other woman to get out of the tram and settle things once and for all, even dragging her onto the platform ready for a fight.

Man Man said the tram driver had to get out and break up the fight before the tram could be on its way.

In the video, the woman in green can be heard calling the woman in black “a prostitute” as the doors close.

What with all transport-related strife going around, a video on public transit etiquette released yesterday by the Transport Department feels particularly timely.

In the video, Hong Kong actress and singer Deanie Ip lays down the law on a line-up of all-too-familiar public transit jerk-offs. With a glare of naked contempt and some choice insults — “Hey koala, wake up!” — Ip enforces the unwritten code of the MTR and bus, calling out various commuter misdemeanors like hogging the handrail, eating, taking up too much space, and generally being a phone-obsessed nuisance. (Finally, someone had the courage to say it!)

One thing the video doesn’t include, but probably should in light of recent events, is “don’t fight other passengers.”
