Police have arrested a 31-year-old man and are looking for another man after they escaped from an apartment they were trying burgle by climbing out of the windows and onto the roof.
In what looks like a scene straight from a Hong Kong police movie, video published on Apple Daily shows two men in purple and orange shirts scaling the walls of an eight-story tenement building in Tai Nan Street in Sham Shui Po.
According to the newspaper, the two men are believed to be Bangladeshi and were robbing an apartment on the seventh floor of the building at round 12pm yesterday.
They were detected after neighbors called the police, reporting that they heard noises and shouting in an apartment they thought was empty.
Officers arrived at the scene and started knocking on the door to ask if anyone was there. Rumbled, the duo had no choice but to climb out of the window, where concerned passers-by yelled: “don’t do that! You’re going to fall!”
The newspaper reported that one of the burglars even dropped their phone as they were trying to escape.
The duo managed to make it to the roof, and according to the newspaper, the man in the purple shirt climbed onto the roof of the tenement building next door.
He then made his way downstairs and tried to walk away from the scene, but was stopped by three plainclothes police officers.
Police are still looking for the man in the orange shirt.
