2 road maintenance workers killed in taxi collision on Kowloon highway

Two road maintenance workers were killed, while another worker and a cab driver were hospitalised in the early hours of today after a taxi collision on a highway in Kowloon.

At around 4am, the taxi was driving westbound on Tsing Kwai Highway in heavy rain, lost control and skidded, according to Apple Daily.

Three workers, aged 33, 47, and 49 had just finished resurfacing an area of the road and were reportedly rearranging traffic cones on the highway.

The taxi crashed into their road maintenance truck and collided with all three men, knocking two down and throwing one man about 30 metres.

One man was confirmed dead on the scene, while the worker who was knocked back 30 metres died at the hospital.

The 33-year-old maintenance worker is currently in intensive care, while the 54-year-old taxi driver has also been hospitalised for light abrasions to his forehead.

Police investigating the scene closed three lanes of the highway for at least five hours, causing severe congestion in the one lane that remained open.
