Hong Kong has earned its first medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games with a bronze in a table tennis event.

Wong Ting-ting, 17, beat a player on the Russian Paralympic Committee team to win third place in the women’s singles table tennis event on Saturday.

Making her debut at the games, Wong said her aim was just to qualify for the Olympics and that the win is “completely unexpected.”

The table tennis player thanked her coach and family members for their support.
