1.6 tonnes of cookies and 9 feet high wall of chocolates for CNY

As we creep closer to Lunar New Year, we enter the peak of demand for new year goods — but that still doesn’t justify the super dangerous miniature cities supermarkets have built out of Kieldsens’ cookies and Ferrero Rocher’s chocolates, reaching the ceiling in many supermarkets.

In the most extreme example, at a Taste supermarket in Tuen Mun, Apple Daily reporters found 1,800 boxes of Kieldsens’ cookies weighing 900g each, forming a 1.6 tonne miniature castle that is nine feet high, reaching the ceiling. On the other side, there are 2,000 boxes of Ferrero Rocher’s chocolates piled together, also nine feet tall and ten feet wide. Other supermarkets have similar structures as well.

Since supermarkets can get crowded at this time of the year, shoppers can get seriously injured if they collapse, and the Fire Department has been alerted about the danger. Watch out!
