A woman was hospitalised earlier today after she was hit by the branch of a falling tree in Sai Ying Pun.
At around 10am today, a 15-metre-tall tree outside Western District Police Station suddenly collapsed on Western Street, blocking three lanes and a pedestrian crossing, Apple Daily reports.
A passerby holding an umbrella reportedly sustained minor injuries to her head after one of the tree branches hit her, and was sent to hospital.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to saw the tree and remove fallen branches.
A source on the scene told Apple Daily that the tree had been there for at least 30 years, and speculated that the soil around its roots had loosened following heavy rain.
Just last month, a 20-metre-tall banyan tree fell outside the same police station.
