The Centre of Health Protection found 153 people infected with HIV in Hong Kong in the third quarter of this year.
Out of the 153 people, 125 of them were men. 78 of the 153 people contracted HIV infections through homosexual or bisexual contact, with 34 of the sufferers contracting the virus through sharing of drug injections, and the remaining unable to determine where they contracted the infection.
Wong Ka-hing, a consultant at The Centre of Health Protection says that sexual activity is still the main and major way of transmitting HIV.
In the same quarter this year, there were 23 new cases of aids. Half of the people infected contracted aids via homosexual contact and a quarter through heterosexual contact.
