15,000 people head out for Cheung Chau bun-snatching fun before noon

The traditional Cheung Chau Bun Festival for the Buddha’s Birthday has always been a huge hit with visitors, and the event today is no different.

The rain did delay locals and tourists getting to the Central ferry pier to head out to the bun-snatching festival at Cheung Chau today. The first crowds didn’t appear at the pier until around 10am.

But by noon, 15,600 people had already headed into Cheung Chau.

The ferry company has urged visitors to wait patiently as there are slightly more visitors this year and ferry frequency has increased fourfold to handle demand, according to Apple Daily.
