The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) recorded 150 new reports of HIV and 40 new reports of AIDS in the second quarter of 2014. This brings the total number of reported HIV cases since 1984 to be 6,646, and the total number of known AIDS cases since 1985 to 1,497.
The primary cause of infection remains sexual transmission, with over half of cases found in homosexual and bisexual patients. Dr Wong Ka-Hing, speaking for the CHP, reminds the public of the importance of using condoms to reduce the risk of contracting HIV. So don’t be silly, wrap your willy! We don’t care if you’re the Wan Chai Cowboy—there is no excuse.

The figure for new HIV cases this quarter is roughly the same compared to those for the first quarter of the year, which saw 154 new HIV cases. There were, however, twice as many new AIDS cases this quarter than the last (20).

Forty seems to be an unusually high number of newly reported AIDS caawa, with the maximum number ranging between 12 and 27 for the last six quarters.
