A 15-year-old girl plunged to her death in Mong Kok yesterday, after reportedly arguing with her mother about “academic issues”.
Shortly before her death, the teenager, surnamed Wong, shared a photo on Instagram of the rooftop she is believed to have jumped from. Reportedly a frequent “rooftopper”, Wong’s antics did not alarm her fellow classmates until she sent them farewell messages via Whatsapp.
Police officers rushed to the scene after Wong’s classmates notified a teacher about her concerning behaviour, but they were too late. The 15-year-old’s body was reportedly found on a seventh-floor canopy of a building on Tung Choi Street, above the crowded Ladies’ Market.
Police told Oriental Daily that they believe Wong jumped from the 25th-floor rooftop of the building. No suicide note was found, but Wong’s schoolbag was taken as evidence.
Students at HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, where Wong was a Form 4 pupil, have been mourning their loss today by pinning notes, ribbons and flowers to a gate on the playground.
