A 13-year-old secondary school student at the prestigious King’s College hung himself after his parents scolded him for playing video games. He is currently in critical condition. Two nights ago, the young boy locked himself in his room in the family’s Pok Fu Lam flat and committed suicide by hanging himself with a Judo belt tied to the frame of the bed.
He is the only son and beloved by his parents. His 47-year-old mother, especially, accompanied him to practice sports every weekend. Two nights ago, nearing the end of the Lunar New Year holidays, the teen played video games non-stop. Although his parents had dissuaded him from playing before, he did not listen. Worried that playing video games would affect his studies, his parents scolded him harshly two nights ago and it’s suspected that because of this, he locked himself in his room and committed suicide. The boy’s parents are devastated.
