Bike-sharing bikes in Hong Kong end up in all sorts of strange places; some have been found broken, some in a river, some broken and in a river.

One was reportedly stolen, painted black and used to make food deliveries by a restaurant worker.

Now, evidence of bicycle-sharing abuse has shown up on one of the territory’s hiking trails.

Hikers enjoying a carefree Sunday stroll yesterday afternoon discovered an abandoned fleet of 13 fluorescent bikes on the Tung O Ancient Trail, according to hk01.

The green bikes belong to GoBee.Bike, a startup bike-sharing service that was introduced to Hong Kong in April.

Locked and placed on their sides, the bikes were facing the same direction towards Tai O, leading some to suspect that their most recent renters may have dumped the bikes and gone for a picnic.

A spokesperson from GoBee.Bike told hk01 that they collected the 13 bikes this morning after receiving a report about the bikes.

They startup did not reply to queries by the website as to whether or not their bikes are suitable for riding on hiking trails.

Hong Kong is not the only city that has people abusing bike-sharing as proven by our sister site Coconuts Singapore, where people have smashed their locks, painted them white and tossed them from the 30th floor of a building.

Separate cases which prove that while most people are generally responsible citizens, some people are just dicks, who ruin things for everyone else.
