Marijuana found hidden inside loudspeakers in outgoing packages at Macau Ferry Terminal

Customs officers seized 1.2 kilos of suspected cannabis buds from two packages at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal on Friday. Further investigations led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man in Kwai Chung.

The cannabis buds, worth HKD170,000, were found concealed within four loudspeakers which were packaged into two outgoing express parcels declared as “speakers”.

The arrestee, who claims to be unemployed, was scheduled to appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Court today.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for trafficking in a dangerous drug is life imprisonment and a fine of HKD5 million.
