Local NGO Hong Kong Helpers Campaign estimates that a thousand people, mostly domestic workers, marched on Sunday demanding justice for Elis Kurniasih, a 33-year-old domestic worker who was crushed to death.
Kurniasih died on March 16 after a concrete slab fell on top of her while she was staying at her agency’s boarding house.

A crowd of around 300 domestic workers protested outside the Indonesian Consulate in Causeway Bay.
Later, hundreds more joined as the crowd marched to Sunlight Employment Agency, which represented Kurniasih, in North Point.

According to the Hong Kong Helpers Campaign, the crowd “wailed in sorrow” as a symbolic coffin representing Elis arrived to the protest.
Kurniasih’s body will be repatriated to Indonesia tomorrow. A fund has been set up to support her family.
There was another protest over Kurniasih’s death on March 17.
