10-year-old boy falls to death in Tsing Yi, grandmother arrested

The grandmother of a 10-year-old boy was arrested yesterday evening after her grandson fell to death from their apartment building in Tsing Yi.

At around 6pm, the child fell while playing in a partially enclosed corridor on the 23rd floor of his residential building on Cheung Hang Estate, Oriental Daily reports. He crashed onto a concrete canopy on the ground floor.

An ambulance rushed the boy to Yan Chai Hospital, but he could not be resuscitated. His 55-year-old grandmother was arrested on suspicion of “ill-treatment or neglect of a child or a young person”.

No suicide note was found on the scene, according to HK01. The case is being investigated by a crime squad from Kwai Tsing Police District.
