10 people acquitted of rioting charges from ‘Fishball Revolution’

Rioting allegations against 10 people who were present in Mong Kok during the so-called “Fishball Revolution” have been withdrawn, apparently due to a lack of evidence.

Earlier today, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions David Leung requested to drop rioting charges against 10 defendants at Kowloon City Court, including former Scholarism member Derek Lam, SCMP reports.

Leung acknowledged that the defendants were all found to be in Mong Kok during the civil unrest over Chinese New Year, but there was insufficient evidence to prove that they had disrupted social order.

Principal Magistrate Peter Law allowed the charges against all 10 – including an unidentified 15-year-old – to be dropped.

The case has been adjourned until May 10, to allow for legal counsel and further police investigation.
