Woman, 59, killed in car crash on the Peak, minibus driver arrested

A 59-year-old woman, surnamed Ng, has died after she was severely injured in a car crash on the Peak on Saturday evening.

At 7:15pm on Saturday, Ng and her 67-year-old husband, surnamed Ho, were pulling out a petrol station on Peak Road in their Mercedes-Benz when a green minibus collided with them, Apple Daily reports.

The impact of the collision sent the couple’s car flying, crashing through a two-metre-long railing and falling 10 metres, landing upside down on the slope of Guildford Road, trapping Ng and Ho inside.

Police blocked off the road as firefighters freed the couple from the car. They were sent to hospital, where Ng, who sustained serious injuries to her head, was certified dead at 7:50pm.

Ho is in stable condition.

The 54-year-old driver, surnamed Yip, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death, the police said. He and his 16 minibus passengers were all unharmed.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any relevant information is urged to call the investigating police officers at 3661 1620 or 3660 6848.
