Friday, October 19

Hong Kong Pride Parade 2018 Kickoff Party

The annual Hong Kong Pride Parade is going to start soon, and it’s kicking off with a big party in LKF. There will also be a lucky draw and performance, and the entrance fee includes one glass of Barefoot Wine, one standard drink, and a special gift from LUSH.

10pm to late at, Mazu, UG, Cosmo Building, 8-11 Lan Kwai Fong, Central. HK$150.

Pure Rock: A Night of Feel Good Music

This one’s brought by events company All That Junk and Pilsner Urquell — a nice of rock performances, from musicians and bands including Paul Roth, The Magic Moon Band, The David Bowie Knives, and Indigo Town. Guests are advised to BYOB, but there will be free Pilsner Urquell (while supplies last). Tickets will be available at the door but could sell out anytime.

8pm to midnight, The Aftermath, L/G, 57-59 Wyndham Street, Central. HK$150 (early bird online) HK$200 (at the door).

In Hiding: A Joint Exhibition by Ellie MacGarry and Yuiha Yamaguchi

This joint exhibition is held by the resident artists at the Hong Kong Baptist University’s Academy of Visual Arts. It will feature new paintings and ceramics influenced by both artists’ experiences of living in Hong Kong for the past two months.

10am-6pm until Monday, October 22 at, Installation Room, the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University, 51 Kwun Tong Road, Kowloon. Free.

Havana Divas

A Quarry Bay cinema will host a special screening of a documentary about two women who met in 1930s Havana through a mutual love for Cantonese opera, and reunite decades later to perform again. It’s a story and friendship that has endured and been colored by war, revolution. Filmed over the course of six years, the documentary takes viewers on a journey from Hong Kong to Havana, New York, Honolulu, and San Francisco. Watch the trailer here.

Prisoners of Heroin

Nicola Longobardi is an Italian photojournalist who focuses her lens mainly on healthcare, environmental or political subjects. This exhibition is part of a series that looks at heroin use in northern Myanmar, which has seen a dramatic increase in the number of drug addicts. According to a report written by KWAT (Kachin Women’s Association Thailand) an NGO founded by Kachin women who have fled to Thailand, it is primarily in the areas under government control where the drugs are most widespread.

Hand Me Down Collective — Pre Loved Sale

If you’re looking for a place to look for secondhand items from designer clothing to vintage gems, six women will be emptying their closets to share some of these gems with you, and we hear there will even be pieces from labels like Gucci, Alexander Wang, and more.

DIY Neon Bar Signs: Halloween Special

This Halloween-themed workshop will allow you to create your own neon ghost or goblin — with the help of a MakerHive technician — to decorate your home with just in time for Halloween. Email contact@makerhive.com.hk for any questions. Spots are limited, so do RSVP.

Big Band Night – Patrick Lui Jazz Orchestra

Award-winning pianist, composer, arranger and producer Patrick Lui will be taking to the podium on Saturday evening for a night of big band jazz. This evening is part of the “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe” project, which includes the Fringe Clubs “Big Band Nights” aimed at promoting some of the city’s best local jazz bands.
