South Canton Soul Train II

If you want to start your weekend with a bit of disco music, then good news: The soul train is here. The South Canton Soul Train, that is, with Cantonese disco, and cheongsams, in the mix. Dress code extends to all disco-themed threads from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, and the aforementioned cheongsams. Prizes will be awarded to the night’s best-dressed. Don’t Shop, Adopt with LAP

Marcel Dzama: Crossing the Line

The David Zwirner gallery presents this exhibition by Canadian-born artist Marcel Dzama — Crossing the Line features drawings, dioramas, and a film that looks into human action and motivation, as well as the blurred relationship between the real and the subconscious.

We Are Like Air: Book Talk & Signing

Filipino photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani will be hosting a talk and a signing about her latest book We Are Like Air, which focuses on the stories and experiences of Hong Kong’s migrant workers. A former domestic worker herself, her photos tell the stories of domestic workers who are portrayed not as victims, but as champions who have overcome many personal hardships.

Big Band Night – LIVE at Fringe Dairy

Island Express Jazz Orchestra will be performing at the Fringe Club as part of the club’s “Jazz-Go-Central, Jazz-Go-Fringe.” Their repertoire includes originals by Bob Mintzer, Pat Metheny and Matt Catinggub, as well as fresh arrangements of the standards. Japanese jazz pianist Junko Moriya will also be the guest soloist at this performance.

Archive by Shann Larsson opening night

Sai Ying Pun art gallery presents this solo show by Shann Larsson, a third culture artist who is of Swedish and Indian heritage who has lived in Hong Kong for the past 21 years. The gallery will be hosting a launch party on Saturday.

Isaac Chong Wai: Is the World Your Friend?

Isaac Chong Wai presents his solo exhibition, which explores his personal experience of being attacked by a stranger on a street in Berlin. Chong meditates on how his actions could mediate trauma, intervene in violence, and even exercise reconciliation. The projects presented are made between 2013 and 2019, and address the themes of incarceration, victimization, migration, oppression, and politics of space.

Long Poses Life Drawing Session

To Kwa Wan art gallery Swing A Cat usually holds a life drawing class on Wednesday evenings, but this week, they’ll be holding it on Sunday. Sessions start with a series of warm-ups where participants draw poses for five minutes, then 20 minutes, then one hour. Drawing tools like A2 paper, charcoal, pencils, easels, drawing boards will be provided, although participants can also bring their own. WhatsApp +852 9378 8614 to register.

A Little Toast with a Big Aussie Day Celebration

Little Creatures in Kennedy Town, which makes its own Aussie-style craft brews, is hosting an Australia Day celebration. There will be beer, food, games, face painting, and, well, whatever other things lots of day-drinking people do together. Tickets cost HK$99 and includes two pints of Kennedy Town brew and sausage sizzle, and each additional pint is just HK$35 all day long. Remember to dress in green or gold. Free Hatha Yoga Class
