Watch this Hong Kong barber with mad skills turn hair into art (VIDEO)

There is something seriously cool about watching artistic things take shape, so with that in mind, we’ve put together a fun little timelapse for all you curious Coconauts out there. Coconuts HK reached out to Hong Kong barber Peter Tan of Cuts & Glory after seeing some of his insane hair designs on Instagram, and he graciously offered to let us watch him shave a Versace hi-lo fade into his friend Kit’s hair.

Would you rock a cut like this, Coconauts?

Soon after meeting him, we learned that Tan is quite the triple threat. Having moved back to Hong Kong from the United States a few years ago, he opened a business selling wine, and taught himself graphic design in order to help his clients create visually appealing menus. Tan soon began to cut and style men’s hair and incorporated it into his wine business by offering clients fresh new dos, menus, and booze.

Despite originally considering barbering as a “part time hustle”, Tan has gradually come more into his own as a stylist, with more and more people joining his clientele list through word of mouth. Among his regulars is Kit Li, also known on the local b-boy scene as DJ Kit, a seriously talented DJ and dancer. Kit’s prominence in b-boy counterculture means he’s often game to sport more whimsical designs than “typically more conservative” Hongkongers, Tan explained.

While this has stymied Tan’s opportunities to flex his creative muscles, it does mean that all you Coconauts with boring office jobs can still get a dapper new fade without pushing the envelope too much. Tan’s before-and-after shots on his Instagram page are truly jaw-dropping even for the more conservative dos, with more than a few showing some pretty dramatic transformations.

That being said, our favourite photos are still of the wackier, crazy cool cuts in Peter’s repertoire. Check them out:
