US fashion retailer American Eagle will open its doors in Central this summer, occupying the former Gap store at the business district’s iconic Queen’s Road Central spot.
The four-storey store, spanning over 7,000 square feet, will be the tenth American Eagle location in Hong Kong.
Known for its mid-range casual clothing and accessories, American Eagle entered the Hong Kong market in 2011 with a store in Harbor City in Tsim Sha Tsui.
It has since also opened in Causeway Bay’s Times Square, Kwun Tong’s APM and Sha Tin’s New Town Plaza.
The Central location will be the first stand-alone store not in a shopping mall. It will also open with its sub-brand, Aerie, which sells lingerie, active apparel and sleepwear.
According to HK01, the US retailer is renting the prime Queen’s Road Central location at close to HK$1 million (US$128,800) a month.

The four-storey store was formerly home to another American clothing brand, Gap. The flagship closed last November as part of the company’s exit from Hong Kong.
Five Gap locations, among them the stores in Causeway Bay’s Hysan Place and Sha Tin’s New Town Plaza, shut in the months leading up to the flagship’s closure.
