Tears for Fears, custom-made Harleys and Napoleon’s passport at this year’s FCC Charity Ball

If you’re going to be rich and pretentious, the least you can do is to attend a charity ball and make yourself look like a nice person – all for a good cause!

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club 14th Hong Kong Charity Ball will this year feature posh food, free flowing wine, trust-fund destroying auction gifts and, perhaps most importantly, 80s pop legends Tears for Fears.

The band’s best known hit “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” is perhaps particularly suitable for this event.

In case that’s not enough incentive to spend a casual HKD2,888 on a ticket, let’s take a look at some of the live auction items that only millionaires will be able to bid for.

How about a custom made Harley Davison Motorcycle? A World Boxing Council Title Belt Signed by more than 50 Champion Boxers, including Muhammad Ali, Oscar de la Hoya, Joe Frazier, Floyd Patterson, Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray? A ship passport signed by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1813?

And the bidding starts at… we don’t want to know!

What: FCC Charity Ball
Where: Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive
When: Saturday Oct. 10, 6pm until late
